Invesco Global Investment Grade Corporate Bond benefits from a robust approach to credit investing, led by an experienced lead manager and supported by a stable and skilled senior investment team. Lead manager and co-head of global investment-grade credit Lyndon Man has helmed this strategy since August 2013, with comanager Michael Booth supporting him since July 2016. Fellow co-head Luke Greenwood is also named on this strategy but is less involved in its day-to-day management, instead primarily focusing on passive strategies. The managers are backed by Invesco’s well-resourced macro research, credit research, and investment strategy teams. The latter, a group of senior macro and sector specialists who formulate the top-down investment themes that Man and Booth draw upon to build this portfolio, has remained stable over the years, bolstering our confidence in the group. These investment themes form the backbone of the strategy and are formulated via a recurring four-week idea-generation process that involves members from across Invesco’s fixed-income platform. Man and Booth select the most appropriate themes for this strategy and populate the portfolio with individual securities recommended by the firm’s extensive credit analyst team. The managers make active use of their flexibility to hold up to 20% in non-investment-grade debt (limited to BB rated issuers), resulting in a more aggressive offering compared to peers in the category. While the team’s openness to taking on more credit risk than its benchmark can sometimes lead to a bumpier ride, it has managed these risks well and used them to maintain a long-term performance advantage. The success of some of the strategy’s enduring themes, such as overweighting financials sector bonds, has likewise helped the fund deliver strong long-term results. |
